Buswell Leaves Workers in the Dark About Asbestos Threat

Western Australian workers are being kept in the dark about the maintenance and monitoring of Government-owned buildings which potentially contain deadly asbestos, Labor Leader Eric Ripper said.

Mr Ripper said the Barnett Government must release the findings of the interdepartmental Asbestos Steering Committee which was set up in 2007 to permanently review and monitor asbestos containing materials (ACMs).

"It seems the Barnett Government has disbanded the Committee before it had met its terms of reference or released its final report," Mr Ripper said.

"The draft final report revealed that almost one third of all Government agencies had failed to complete asbestos registers and management plans for buildings.

"How many workers are being put at risk due to Minister Troy Buswell's failure to manage this critical process?" More
